French Language Services
Providence Care offers bilingual healthcare services in English and French, ensuring accessibility to all individuals regardless of language.
Providence Care is an identified organization under Ontario’s French Language Services Act. As part of this commitment, we continue to enhance access to services in French for patients, clients, residents, families, and visitors who prefer to receive care in French.
If you would like care or services in French
We recognize that not all members of our care teams are currently able to provide services in French. However, you have the right to request services in the language of your choice, and we are committed to supporting this preference.
We offer 24/7/365 professional interpretation services by phone or video across all clinical areas. These services are free of charge and can be requested at any point during your care — including during registration, admission, or through any member of your care team.
If an in-person interpreter is needed due to hearing considerations, clinical needs, or the care environment, we ask that you contact your care area at least 48 hours before your appointment when possible. We will make every effort to arrange an interpreter to support communication.
We are also continuing to translate more patient, client, resident and care partner information materials so that key resources are available in both French and English.
Our Commitment to Advancing French Language Services
As part of our French Language Services Implementation Plan, Providence Care is taking meaningful steps to strengthen French-language access and the Active Offer of services such as:
- Offering French language assessments and training opportunities to staff interested in providing services in French.
- Providing “Je parle français / I speak French” identifiers for staff and volunteers who are able and willing to communicate in French.
- Updating signage and wayfinding to ensure bilingual information is available and clearly visible.
- Continued partnership with the French Language Health Services Network of Eastern Ontario to better understand and respond to the needs of Francophone communities in our region.
