The design of the new Providence Care Hospital is based on its surroundings and connection to the “Water’s Edge” – the very location of the new hospital on the King Street West campus.
The building has views and connections to the spaces around it: the Heritage lands, Lake Ontario, and Lake Ontario Park. These views from the hospital are reflected in the names of the three inpatient wings of the building: Heritage – which looks towards the heritage lands like the Rockwood building; Lakeview – which overlooks the waterfront, and Parkside – which faces Lake Ontario Park.
These elements of orientation help with wayfinding and navigation in the building. They also lend themselves to the design elements throughout the building, bringing in natural elements and the landscape into the building through colour and texture.
To help orientate you to the inpatient towers, the units are organized as follows:
Heritage 0 – Forensics Mental Health
Heritage 1 – Physical Rehabilitation
Heritage 2 – Complex Medical Care and Palliative Care
Lakeview 0 – Adult Mental Health
Lakeview 1- Physical Rehabilitation and Restorative Rehabilitation
Lakeview 2 – Complex Medical Care
Parkside 0 – Adult Mental Health
Parkside 1 – Seniors Rehabilitation and Restorative Rehabilitation
Parkside 2 – Seniors Mental Health
