The Willow Network
The Willow Network is a collaborative, multi-agency initiative that provides a comprehensive, survivor-centered response to human sex trafficking in Southeastern Ontario. Led by Providence Care in collaboration with key community partners—including Ongwanada, Victim Services, Kingston Health Sciences Centre, Kingston Community Health Centre, and local police forces—The Willow Network offers a seamless, interdisciplinary support model tailored to the unique needs of survivors. Survivors supported by The Willow Network experience a safe, trauma-informed, and collaborative journey designed to meet their unique needs. Willow recognizes that every survivor’s path to healing is different, and our goal is to provide flexible, wrap-around support that empowers individuals to rebuild their lives with dignity and autonomy.
Who We Help
The Willow Network aims to support individuals who are actively being sex trafficked or are experiencing ongoing consequences related to sex trafficking. This program supports:
- Survivors of sex trafficking, including children, youth, and adults.
- Individuals who have intersecting vulnerabilities such as homelessness, poverty, and lack of social support.
- Those at any stage of trafficking.
What Survivors Can Expect
The Willow Network offers comprehensive, trauma-informed care tailored to the unique needs of each individual.
Timely Support
Survivors can connect with a dedicated case manager who specializes in human trafficking and understands the complex trauma survivors face.
Safety planning begins immediately, ensuring survivors have a secure place to stay and a plan to navigate high-risk situations.
Trauma-Informed Case Management & Direct Support
- Survivors are not alone—they are matched with a support team that includes social workers, Indigenous health practitioners, primary care physicians, and mental health professionals.
- Case managers coordinate services and ensure survivors have access to resources without needing to navigate the system alone.
Medical & Mental Health Care
- Survivors have access to trauma-informed medical care, including STI and pregnancy testing, harm reduction support, and general healthcare through a partnership with Kingston Community Health Centre that provides flexibility in where people want to access care (multiple clinic locations and home visits available).
- Survivors experiencing PTSD, anxiety, depression, or substance use challenges receive mental health support from trained social workers and have access to a psychiatrist through a partnership with Kingston Health Sciences Center
- An Indigenous Community Health Nurse provides culturally safe care, traditional healing, and referrals to Indigenous-specific services.
- For survivors with an intellectual disability, team members are available to help bridge supports with developmental service agencies.
Peer Support & Community Connection
- Survivors have access to peer support groups and recreational therapy, helping them build safe and healthy relationships with others who understand their experiences.
- Life skills training—including financial literacy, cooking, and job readiness.
- Access to Indigenous-based supports within Willow, ensuring survivors can reconnect with culture and traditional healing if they choose.
Ongoing Stability & Prevention
- Survivors are supported to secure stable housing, employment, and education, helping them transition to a safer, independent life.
- Long-term case management ensures that survivors remain connected to supports as they navigate their healing journey.
- Survivors have a say in how services are shaped, ensuring programs remain survivor-informed and responsive to evolving needs.
