Two hardworking Providence Care employees Kaitlyn del Rosario and Kelsey Tucker have received the Kingston Economic Development 40 under 40 award for their achievements and contributions made in their career and in the community. The award highlights the winner’s exceptional achievements demonstrated through their dedication, passion and vision in their respective fields.
Kaitlyn del Rosario is the Director of Care at Providence Manor, Providence Care’s long-term care home. Kelsey Tucker is an Occupational Therapist and the Clinical Lead of the Peer 2 Community Pilot Program. Both say it’s been an honour to receive the award.
“I am honored for the acknowledgement. It prompted me to reflect on the decisions I made when I migrated to Canada in 2010 – I was driven by my aspirations for professional excellence, says Kaitlyn. “I extend my gratitude to those in my personal and professional network whose guidance and support has helped me achieve this milestone,” she adds.
“I’m a direct service provider, busy community builder, and tireless wisecracker, so to be a recipient of this award is a really heart-warming affirmation for me that I can be seen and valued for the person I am and the energy I put back into this community,” explains Kelsey.
Receiving the 40 under 40 award has allowed both Kaitlyn and Kelsey to reflect on some of their professional accomplishments.
Kaitlyn says some of her biggest achievements at work have been a true team effort. From upholding the Residents’ Bill of Rights to the highest standards, empowering the team with necessary insights for Elderly Abuse prevention, aligning workflows with Ministry of Long-Term Care compliance requirements on Fixing the Long-Term Care Act and stream-lining workflows and processes are just a few things she says she couldn’t have accomplished without her team.
For Kelsey, some of her biggest achievements in her professional life include the work she’s accomplished with the Peer 2 Community Pilot Project, a program dedicated to helping people find belonging in their community following homelessness. Prior to joining Providence Care, she successfully secured funding, designed and planted a Miyawaki-inspired forest and quality greenspace for individuals. The goal of the work was to give people who might be vulnerable to stigma and discrimination a sense of belonging in public spaces.
Both Kaitlyn and Kelsey say it’s been hard work and perseverance that has helped them reach this point in their career.
“Embrace discomfort, appreciate the value and significance of failure and personal reflection,” says Kaitlyn. “It is often difficult to look at your own mistakes, yet it is a key to adapting, demonstrating accountability and building trust. If you are not accountable, you are not credible. In the event you experience fatigue in your career or life, pause briefly, step back, take a moment to recharge but sustain your momentum and keep going.”
As for Kelsey, she says “I’m back in my [American author] Annie Dillard phase and have always found the following excerpt to contain the kind of deep and abiding wisdom that offers guidance for a lifetime: “The dedicated life is the life worth living. You must give with your whole heart.”
