A recent CKWS story highlighted the work of Voices Opportunities and Choices Employment Club (VOCEC). Below is a short excerpt from their story:
“Recovery through work. That’s the motto of a local program looking to help people with mental health issues such as depression and anxiety find meaningful jobs. The Voices Opportunities and Choices Employment Club – or VOCEC- has 8 businesses in the Kingston area. The Breaking Ground Café at the Kingston YMCA is one of them.
Lea Fraser/Head Baker, Breaking Ground Café:
It helps me recover a lot. Baking is very therapeutic to me and I enjoy coming to work where before I wouldn’t, I’d just stay in the house.”
