Providence Care offers non-clinical student placements to support the efforts of students affiliated with a variety of educational professions. These placements provide the opportunity to apply classroom learning in the workplace as part of their diploma, degree or certification requirements.
A non-clinical student placement is defined as having no direct physical contact with patients and includes but is not limited to opportunities to work alongside staff in human resources, medical administration, patient records and registration, communications, general administration, and our steam plant.
While many students come to us from nearby schools such as Queen’s University and St. Lawrence College, we also place students from across the country.
If you are interested in completing a placement, please send the following information to work@providencecare.ca.

Working at Providence Care
Providence Care, a Catholic health organization, is Southeatern Ontario’s leading provider of specialized care in aging, mental health and rehabilitation. Consisting of more than 20 community programs, Providence Manor long-term care home, Hospice Kingston, Providence Transitional Care Centre and Providence Care Hospital. We care for more than 15,000 people across the region.
Working within and beyond our walls in the hospital, home and community sectors, we achieve the best possible outcome for those vulnerable populations who require rehabilitation, mental health services, complex medical management, long-term care and palliative care. We are committed to restorative care, promoting independence, enhancing the quality of life and are redefining traditional health care.
Fully-affiliated with Queen’s University and St. Lawrence College, Providence Care is a member of the Ontario Hospital Association, and is a centre for healthcare, education and research. We are more than healthcare; we promote independence, enhance quality of life and redefine traditional healthcare through partnerships, innovation and research.

Collaborative Practice Model
Collaborative practice is defined by the World Health Organization as: “the provision of comprehensive health and human services by multiple health workers and others who work together with patients/clients, their families, and extended caregivers to deliver quality care and services within and across settings”. The Collaborative Practice Philosophy was developed to enhance inter professional collaboration at Providence Care. Adopting this philosophy is an important endeavor as it has been demonstrated to be associated with more positive health care outcomes for clients/patients, better staff satisfaction, and reduced health care costs, as well as increased client/patient satisfaction.
Students are represented as a key contributor in our Collaborative Practice Model. As an academic health sciences centre, we are committed to offering high quality and engaging student placement experiences for everyone who works and learns at Providence Care, and the people we serve.
