Hospice Kingston to integrate with Providence Care in 2022
At its annual general meeting on Dec. 14, Hospice Kingston’s board of directors announced its voluntary integration with Providence Care in the new year.
“Over the last 36 years, Hospice Kingston has provided comfort, support and companionship to individuals with life-limiting illness, at end of life, their families, and those affected by grief and loss,” said Allen Prowse, Hospice Kingston Board Chair. “But it hasn’t been without its challenges.” In those 36 years, change in Ontario’s evolving health care system has been constant, and with it creates both opportunities and obstacles.
“Adapting to new structures, the ever growing population in need of hospice care and a global pandemic all present challenges,” said Prowse. “But our board and dedicated group of volunteers and staff have been unwavering in their efforts to provide high quality palliative care and hospice services to this community.”
The integration will bring together administrative, organizational, clinical and service elements under the leadership of Providence Care to support patients and their families receiving palliative and end-of-life care in the community for years to come.
Community hospice services, such as client conversations, wellness programs, caregiver support, and grief and bereavement services will continue to be provided by the same staff and dedicated volunteers, and there is no change to how Hospice Kingston clients and families access services.
“With a long-standing tradition of providing high quality, compassionate care to Kingston and area residents, and experience in large-scale redevelopment projects, we are confident in the leadership and expertise Providence Care brings to the future of hospice community services and the hospice residence project,” said Prowse.
“Providence Care has long partnered with Hospice Kingston to provide support and opportunities for positive change and growth in the palliative care and community hospice services field”, said Cathy Szabo, Providence Care President & CEO. “Together, we are adapting to provide the best possible hospice palliative care for the people of Kingston and area.”
