Complex Medical Management is an inpatient program at Providence Care Hospital (PCH) that is offered to patients who have multiple chronic diseases. The program is provided to patients as a means to:
- increase activity tolerance
- slow the rate or avoid further loss of function
Functional objectives include optimizing and ongoing maintenance of functional abilities. Patients receiving Complex Medical Management may have:
- extensive wounds, with the goal to bring the wound to a level of care that can be managed in the community
- complex respiratory needs
Admission criteria

- be age 16 or older
- be medically stable
- have complex medical needs, including multiple long-term illnesses and/or disabilities
- require 24-hour skilled nursing and technology-based care that cannot be provided by community programs/services
Patients must also demonstrate a need and an ability to participate in and benefit from low to moderate intensity therapy that supports functional progression or stabilization. Therapies may include physiotherapy, occupational therapy and/or speech language pathology.
