Welcome Clinical Placement Students to Providence Care!
We are proud to offer clinical learning environments where students are welcomed as valued members of the care team and supported throughout their placement experience. We offer placements across all our hospital sites and our community programs.
Providence Care offers placement opportunities for post-secondary students enrolled in a variety of clinical programs. Students will have the opportunity to work within an interprofessional team to provide recovery-oriented care that is person-centered. The development and education of our clinical students is a key component of the Providence Care Strategic Plan. We believe today’s academic health science environments must focus on advancing clinical professions within the domains of practice, education, research and leadership. Our intent is to provide a meaningful and rewarding clinical placement.

Please note that our Clinical Placement Department communicates only with placement coordinators at your academic institution, and not with individual students.

FAQs
What are the different care settings provided at Providence Care?
Clinical placements may occur in one or more of the following settings:
Providence Care Hospital (PCH)
A 270-bed, state-of-the-art facility integrating mental health, rehabilitation, palliative care, and complex medical management services.
Providence Transitional Care Centre (PTCC)
A 64-bed facility focused on restorative, transitional, and convalescent care for older adults.
AB Smith Homestead House
A 10-bed specialized, 24-hour end-of-life care unit for individuals in their final days to weeks of life whose needs cannot be met at home. Care focuses exclusively on comfort and quality of life, without life-prolonging therapies.
Community Programs
More than 20 community-based programs across Southeastern Ontario providing outpatient and outreach services in mental health, rehabilitation, aging, and palliative care.
How does the student onboarding process work, including orientation?
Pre-Placement Requirements and Training
You will receive information and any forms required from your school regarding the pre-placement requirements and training.
Note: You are required to complete and provide any required forms to your Placement Coordinator so they can confirm that you meet our placement requirements.
Orientation
All students must complete orientation prior to starting their placement. Orientation may be attended in-person or completed online, depending on availability.
If you are unable to attend in person, you must complete an online orientation. A link will be provided to you by your placement coordinator.
What badges and equipment are required at the hospital?
Students must wear a Providence Care issued identification badge at all times while on placement.
You are responsible for collecting your required items on or before your first day of placement.
Site-specific requirements
PCH placements: Badge, keys, and Personal Alarm Device (PAD). PADs must be picked up and signed out from the Student Placement Office at Providence Care Hospital.
PTCC placements: Badge, keys, and whistle. Whistles must be picked up from the Student Placement Office at Providence Care Hospital.
Community placements: Only a badge is required.
IT Credentials and Computer Access
Your login credentials will be provided to your placement coordinator in advance of your placement. You should have them with you on your first day. If you have not received your login credentials, please contact your school’s placement coordinator to retrieve them.
What are the parking and access options at Providence Care Hospital?
Paid parking is available at Providence Care Hospital using a pay-on-exit gated system. Accessible and reduced-mobility parking spaces are available near the main entrance.
Paid parking is also available at Providence Transitional Care Centre using the Honk mobile app or one of the pay and display machines in the parking lot.
