Shared Spaces at AB Smith Homestead House offer welcoming, thoughtfully designed areas for clients, care partners and families to rest, connect, reflect, and share meaningful moments together.
Pantry
Care partners have full access to the pantry at any time. The pantry is equipped with a microwave, coffee maker, kettle, toaster, utensils, and pantry space for personal ingredients. Toast, muffins, soup, sandwiches, frozen entrées, juice, coffee, and tea are available throughout the day. Â
Personal food items can be stored in the pantry fridge/freezer or the in-room fridge. Please ensure containers are labeled with the patient’s name and date of preparation and are consumed within 48 hours. Items not labeled correctly, or past 48 hours will be discarded to ensure food safety.Â
Family-Style Kitchen
Access to the Family-Style Kitchen is limited during meal preparation. At other times, care partners may use the space, which includes a stove, microwave, coffee maker, kettle, ice machine, toaster, cookware, utensils. Care partners should ask staff or volunteers for assistance if they wish to use the stove. Â
Living Room & Dining Room
The Living Room and Dining Room are designed to create a welcoming environment that encourages connection and comfort. The Living Room features a charming fireplace, a television, and a kids’ corner. The dining area is arranged to suit family meals and meaningful moments together. Whether for family gatherings, quiet relaxation, or shared meals, this space strikes the ideal balance between comfort and practicality, making it a perfect place for both relaxation and connection.Â
Family Room
The Family Room is a quiet gathering space, designed for families and care partners to connect. This room is intentionally designed to be versatile – whether it’s for quiet moments of solitude, heart-to-heart conversations, or simply being together. Â
Spiritual Room
The house is inclusive to all faiths and cultures providing compassionate care for the whole person, realizing their needs are spiritual, emotional, physical and social. The Spiritual Room can be used for small groups and individual spiritual health practices, including prayers, mindfulness exercises, spirituality groups and meditation. The Spiritual Room features the four cardinal directions on the floor so that individuals can orient themselves in specific directions for worship and prayer. The room is also equipped with ventilation that enables Indigenous persons and others to participate in smudging ceremonies used for healing and centering. Please speak to staff if you would like to use the room for smudging. Â
Care Desk
The centrally located Care Desk serves as the hub for care coordination. The space is designed to provide easy access to medical assistance while maintaining a calm and welcoming atmosphere. The station is equipped with essential technology to support patient care, including electronic health records and communication tools to facilitate collaboration among the hospice team.Â
