What Happens Next
We are here to support care partners after death.
After death has occurred, a registered staff member will confirm the death – this is called “pronouncement of death.” The physician will then be notified to complete a death certificate. When you are ready, contact the funeral home or cremation service you have chosen.
Where no specific after death rituals have been included in the care plan, staff, volunteers, and visitors in the building will form an Honour Guard, respectfully stand in the hallway and reception area to pay their respect to the deceased and their care partners as they exit the building. Together, we gather outside until the transfer vehicle has left. Care partners are invited to come back inside and stay for as long as needed before leaving the house.
