Your Safety
We promote a safe care environment through consistent practices that help prevent falls, verify identification, and ensure timely responses to security or emergency situations.
Falls Prevention
Upon admission, inpatients are assessed for risk of falling as part of the Providence Care Falls Prevention program. If a patient or client is found to be at high risk of a fall, the care team will ensure additional safety measures are put in place. Patients and clients who have concerns about their mobility while at PCH are encouraged to speak with a member of the care team for assistance.
Patient Identification for Care and Medications
Care team members will always verify inpatient identification before giving any medication or performing any test or procedure. In some cases, patients/clients may be asked to provide evidence of name and date of birth, or to use an identification wristband while in the hospital. Verifying patient and client identification is an important safety measure.
Protection Services (Security)
Protection Services staff routinely come on site and do a walkabout around the perimeter of the home and inside. They also provide security services when required. In the case of an emergency, dial 4444 from any internal phone and state your location and describe your emergency.
Emergency Procedures
In the event of an emergency, an Emergency Code will be announced overhead. Please pay attention to the announcement and follow directions provided. Staff and physicians are trained to respond to Emergency Codes.
Elder Abuse
Elder abuse can happen to anyone.
It includes any action — or lack of action — that causes harm, distress, or fear to an older adult, especially when trust is involved. Abuse can happen in families, friendships, or care relationships. If something doesn’t feel right, or if you’re worried about an older adult’s safety or wellbeing, please tell a member of your care team. We’re here to help.
