But behind the scenes of those treatment rooms are essential workers who ensure hospitals, clinics and long-term care homes are clean, comfortable and safe.
“Environmental Services save lives,” says Dave Smith, Manager of Environmental Services at Providence Care.
“I could not be more proud to honour the great work that our team does day-in and day-out. This team is an integral part of our hospital that deserves to be recognized for their ongoing efforts in helping provide a safe and efficient environment within its walls.”
Although Environmental Services can sometimes fly under the radar, Dave believes each and every member adds value to the overall operations of the hospital that is located in Kingston on the shore of Lake Ontario.
“The second week in September is National Health Care Environmental Services Week, a time when we honour the men and women who ensure a safe, healthy and a clean facility all year long,” explains Dave. “I want to highlight the critical role this team plays at Providence Care Hospital.”
According to Dave, “Environmental Services are the frontline defense against serious infections throughout our facility. These individuals show-up every day, dedicated to keeping our facilities clean. This ensures our community can safely receive the high-quality health care and medical services they deserve, especially as we continue the fight against COVID-19, when sanitation and infection control standards are higher than ever.”
“They continuously rise to every challenge we face, and every change we implement,” says Dave. “And, they do it all with professionalism, excellence, and kindness. When Environmental Services run smoothly, our medical concerns can be the focus of our medical professionals. It truly takes every single person and department within our walls to ensure that our community and patients have access to compassionate, exceptional, equitable, and safe care.”
