Amy Albertson is a member of Providence Manor’s Housekeeping and Laundry team and has been for the last three years. She calls the team the eyes and ears of the home. Amy enjoys interacting with the residents while she’s hard at work, taking the time to get to know everyone she meets.
“My career has evolved into building relationships with my colleagues and the residents. I enjoy making people happy,” Amy says.
Amy is one of 26 dedicated people who look after the cleanliness and sanitation of the long-term-care home, often going above and beyond their job duties and responsibilities.
“While I was outside on my break, I noticed a new resident was moving into Providence Manor and their family members were unloading furniture,” explains Stefanie Sebastiani-Cahill, another Housekeeping and Laundry team member. “I introduced myself, offered to help, and sent the family back to the resident’s room. I unloaded the furniture for them. They were so appreciative; they were so overwhelmed.”
And it’s not just at Providence Manor where people like Amy and Stefanie are making impact by taking care of the spaces that help people stay well, recover and thrive. At Providence Care Hospital (PCH) and Providence Transitional Care Centre (PTCC) you can find another 57 people on the Environmental Services team, including Sandra Matos and John Matthews. Sandra has worked at PCH for the last seven years and is known for her big smile and willingness to tackle any job, big or small. John has worked at both PCH and PTCC over his 15 years with Providence Care and takes immense pride in his work.
“I support both levels at PTCC with linen and waste services along with supporting the discharge cleaning and have been doing so since the transitional care hospital opened,” explains John. “Meeting and talking with the clients is one of my favourite things about the job. I ensure our clients have the confidence that Providence Care is a safe, clean environment.”
It takes a dedicated and mighty team to maintain sanitation and cleanliness for our patients, clients, residents, visitors, staff and volunteers. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become even more inherently obvious their vital role in overall quality of care and experience across all Providence Care sites.
“At Providence Care, the remarkable Environmental Services and Housekeeping and Laundry Services teams stand as unsung champions, ensuring impeccable cleanliness, safety, and environmental responsibility,” says Director, Facilities Management Chis Mackey.
“Their diligent work in maintaining our hospital and long-term care facilities reflects an unwavering commitment to well-being. From meticulous cleaning, disinfecting and laundering, to efficient waste management, they exemplify excellence. Their silent dedication fosters an uplifting atmosphere for patients, residents, visitors and staff. In their every task, they embody Providence Care’s values and illuminate the path of service.”
