In accordance with the Smoke-Free Ontario Act, smoking and vaping are not permitted anywhere on hospital property. This includes no smoking or vaping inside the building, on courtyards, porches and surrounding hospital grounds. Smoking and vaping are also not permitted in hospital parking lots or in personal vehicles on hospital property.
The Smoke-Free Ontario Act applies to all inpatients, outpatients, visitors, volunteers and staff. The property is 100% smoke and vape free. Violations of the Smoke-Free Ontario Act could result in a $305 fine for individuals. Providence Care Hospital is located next to Lake Ontario Park. As per Bylaw No. 2002-231, smoking and vaping are not permitted in Lake Ontario Park.
A partnership with the Ottawa Model for Smoking Cessation (OMSC) is being used as a framework for helping patients and clients with their smoking cessation or harm reduction goals.
